For The Love of Dogs
Meghan Parker is the founder, owner and head trainer of Durham Dog Training.
She started her dog & puppy training journey many years ago, as a dog enthusiast who loved helping others trouble shoot issues they were having with their dogs. Speaking dog came very naturally to her and learning how to navigate what dogs were communicating became a passion.
Realizing that the bond is incredibly important for canine training techniques to be carried out, she looked for resources, education and information that helped facilitate her techniques to ensure that the dog and owner would be successful.
While working 17 years in Special Education (specifically in Deafblind studies) she decided to get serious and expand her knowledge by taking The Dog Trainer T.R.I.B.E Academy Program and hone her hands on skills.
The T.R.I.B.E program focuses on the in-depth aspects of dog psychology and how to build a program that would enrich and nurture the dog’s breed and temperament.
She breaks dog training down into smaller steps so that the owner and the dog do not become overwhelmed, which leads to the best long-term gains.
Meghan continues to work alongside other dog training professionals and attends workshops and seminars to make sure she has up to date knowledge on training methods, as not every dog is the same, and conforms to one specific way of training. She is also a proud member of the IACP (International Assoc. of Canine Professionals) and attends their annual conference to network and expand her dog training expertise.
Having had 2 dogs of her own–a 14-year-old Pomeranian/Poodle and a 15-year-old Border Collie (a retired therapy dog) that experienced medical issues, she understands how important physical conditioning and canine training adaptability truly are.
In 2023 she brought home her newest Border Collie pup (Theo) who now attends client sessions to help motivate and teach other dogs how to interact positively and effectively. He makes his guest appearance on Durham Dog Training’s social media frequently! (Along with lots of other important training tips!)
Meghan has lived in the Clarington area for the past 17 years, and has as had the privilege of serving dog owners of Durham Region.
She looks forward to hearing from you, and helping you and your dog build your bond together!
